Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in contact with the league office.

The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Shared on Instagram

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Currently Unavailable

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
