Rob Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to succeed the former manager as manager of Wolves.

The previous coach was sacked on the weekend after the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League season.

And both candidates - each of whom have historic associations to the team - are part of the options to be considered by the club leadership.

Edwards is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

Nevertheless the former Luton manager - who made over a century of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a leading candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the club directors as they begin the search of appointing a fresh manager.

Gary O'Neil is additionally emerging as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a shock appointment given he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.

The ex- West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed which means the club would not need to provide any compensation.
