Top-ranked Sabalenka Secures Consecutive WTA Top Player Awards.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.
The 27-year-old secured four titles – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Dominance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and earned a record eleven million pounds in prize money.
She garnered almost eighty percent of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Other WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking extended hiatus after the birth of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after winning their second Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
