US Online Influencer Penalized Following Large-Scale E-Bike Gathering on Sydney Harbour Bridge

New South Wales police have issued a fine against an American social media personality and handed out two traffic infringement notices for alleged negligent driving following a large group of electric bicycle users converged on the famous Sydney landmark during the busy commute on a weekday.

The Event: A Prohibited Ride

A gathering of approximately 40 individuals riding electric bikes and motorbikes travelled along the primary roadway of the bridge, where cycling is prohibited. The riders then turned around and traveled through the city’s CBD and Haymarket.

"This had potential for serious injury or fatalities," stated a senior police official David Driver on the following day.

Law enforcement said they did not chase right away the group out of safety concerns but rather found the assembly at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair near the Botanic Gardens, where they dispersed.

Fines Imposed for Influencer

On Saturday, authorities stated they had served the US social media influencer who goes by Sur Ronster, 26, with two violation tickets for negligent driving (not involving death or prior injury), carrying a penalty of $562 and three demerit points per notice, connected to the bridge ride-out. They added that the investigation is ongoing.

The influencer reportedly has more than 3.4 million followers on YouTube and over 1.2 million on the social media app.

Influencer's Comments

The content creator spoke with a local publication recently after the incident spread rapidly on news sites and social media, stating he was sorry for giving "bike life" a bad reputation.

"I’ll probably take responsibility. It was one of the safest gatherings I have witnessed," he said. "I am a visitor here, so I’m going to abide by the laws and norms of the city. So when I decided to do a public meeting it was not meant to include a group ride, it was just to say hi near the bridge."

"I’m unfamiliar with the city, it was my fault we ended up on the bridge and I had a decision to make: either the group rides the full length of the bridge and turns around, which is a crime. Or we turn around, basically, before we’re on the bridge. I chose at the time to go back."

National Debate on E-Bike Regulation

The spate of electric bicycles on streets across the country has sparked growing calls for regulation. The federal health minister, the minister, commented that non-compliant electric bikes were a "total menace on the road."

"Young people have engaged in reckless acts on bikes since the invention of the early bicycle [but] the injuries that are coming into our ERs are absolutely devastating," he said. "We must make sure we stop these things entering the country [and] police are given the powers to crack down, to take them away, to destroy them, to dispose of them."

NSW recorded over two hundred injuries related to ebikes in 2024. However, in the initial half of 2025, that figure surged to two hundred thirty-three injuries plus four deaths.
